Specialty Wood Bars, Countertops and Floating Shelves Handcrafted in Medina Ohio
Some surfaces are functional. These are not those surfaces.
Our exotic hardwood collection is hand-selected, responsibly sourced, and fabricated in our Medina shop — built for clients who want a space people actually talk about.
These woods aren’t mass-produced — they’re statement materials, chosen for clients who want something unforgettable.

WHY EXOTIC HARDWOOD
Exotic hardwoods are prized for their distinctive grain patterns, rich colors, and natural durability. Many are naturally resistant to moisture, insects, and wear — making them excellent choices for bars, feature pieces, and luxury interiors.
Built to last decades
Most exotic species rank significantly harder than domestic alternatives. Denser fibers resist denting, scratching, and daily wear at a level laminate and standard stone can’t match.
Natural resilience
Many exotics carry natural oils and tight grain structures that resist moisture and insects without chemical treatment — ideal for bars, kitchens, and outdoor-adjacent spaces.
Genuinely one-of-a-kind
No two slabs share the same grain, color, or figure. What you get from us cannot be replicated — not at a big-box store, not down the street.
Adds measurable home value
Custom exotic millwork signals quality to appraisers and buyers alike. It’s a statement that reads as a premium build — because it is one.

OUR EXOTIC SPECIES GUIDE

- African Mahogany
- Rosewood
- Wenge
- Purpleheart
- Sapel
- Teak

Purpleheart
NATURE’S MAGIC TRICK – Truly, naturally purple — no stain, no treatment
We get asked constantly if it’s painted. It is not. Purpleheart comes out of the saw a vivid, deep purple — a color so unusual it stops people cold. Over time it mellows into a rich royal plum that only deepens with age. It ranks among the hardest and most stable species we carry, which means it’s not just a novelty — it performs.
We love it as a feature accent: an inlay into a maple or walnut top, a custom edge detail, or a cutting board that becomes a keepsake. It’s the definition of a conversation piece.
Best for
- Inlay accents
- Custom edges
- Cutting boards
- Statement pieces
Standout property
Bar fronts or a centerpiece kitchen island that fells like a piece of art.

Teak
ULTIMATE PROTECTION – Golden-brown warmth that’s practically bulletproof
There’s a reason Teak has been used on the decks of multi-million dollar yachts for centuries. It’s packed with natural silica and oils that make it one of the most moisture-resistant woods on earth — no extra sealing required for most applications.
Around a home bar, a basement kitchen, or anywhere humidity and spills are facts of life, Teak is your insurance policy. It has a distinct, almost waxy feel underhand that signals quality before you’ve even looked at the grain.
Best for
- Home bars
- Outdoor kitchens
- Basement spaces
- High-humidity areas
Standout property
Naturally moisture and insect resistant
Wenge
MODERN EDGE – Chocolate-to-near-black, with fine light veining
Wenge is a wood for the minimalist who refuses to compromise. It reads almost black at a distance — sharp, clean, decisive. Up close, fine light-colored veins reveal an unexpected depth. It’s one of the densest woods we work with, which means it holds up in commercial and high-traffic residential applications without a second thought.
Paired with white cabinetry in a modern Cleveland or Medina home, it delivers a contrast that photographs as well as it lives.
Best for
- Modern kitchen islands
- Commercial bars
- Office desks
Often paired with
White or light gray cabinetry

Zebrawood
THE SHOWSTOPPER-Bold, graphic, impossible to ignore
Zebrawood earns its name. The dark, contrasting stripe pattern that runs through every slab is entirely natural — no stain, no treatment, no shortcut.
If you want the first thing guests notice when they walk into your kitchen or bar to be the countertop, this is the species. It demands a clean, simple surround. Let it be the room.
Best for
- Bar fronts
- Kitchen islands
- Statement countertops
Hardness
Significantly harder than domestic oak

Sapele
THE “AFFORDABLE LUXURY” – Shimmering reddish-brown with a ribbon figure
Sapele is consistently mistaken for premium Mahogany — and for good reason. It carries a natural chatoyancy, a ribbon-like shimmer that shifts as you move past it, that makes even a simple flat-slab top look like a tailored piece of furniture.
It’s harder than true Mahogany, meaning it handles the rigors of a working kitchen without sacrificing elegance. One of our most versatile exotics, and one of our most requested.
Best for
- Formal dining tops
- Kitchen refreshes
- Home offices
Often paired with
Maple or White Oak base cabinets

We provide Free Exotic Wood Project Design Consultation across Northeast Ohio.

Q. Can exotic hardwoods be used in kitchens with heavy daily use?
A. Absolutely — many of the species we carry rank harder than domestic alternatives. Wenge, Teak, and Zebrawood in particular are dense enough to handle daily kitchen use without special treatment. We’ll match you to the right species based on how your space actually lives.
Q. How do I know which exotic species is right for my project?
A.That’s exactly what your free design consultation is for. We look at your cabinetry, lighting, traffic patterns, and lifestyle before recommending a species. A bold Zebrawood island needs a different surround than a Sapele dining top — we help you see the whole picture before committing.
Q. Are exotic woods safe around food and kids?
A. Yes, when finished correctly. We use food-safe, non-toxic finishes on any surface that will contact food. For cutting surfaces specifically we’ll walk you through finish options at your consultation so you get the right protection for how you actually use your kitchen.
Q. Do exotic woods hold up in basements or high-humidity spaces?
A. Some species handle humidity exceptionally well — Teak especially, which is naturally packed with silica and oils that resist moisture without additional sealing. We always assess moisture content and environmental conditions before recommending a species for below-grade or high-humidity applications.
Q. How do you source your exotic wood responsibly?
A. We work exclusively with suppliers who provide documented chain of custody and prioritize responsible harvesting. Whenever possible we source reclaimed exotic material — giving remarkable wood a second life. We won’t carry a species we can’t source ethically.
Q. Can exotic wood be combined with other materials like epoxy or domestic wood?
A. Yes — and some of our most striking work does exactly that. Purpleheart inlaid into a maple top. Wenge paired with a live edge epoxy river pour. Sapele combined with white oak for a transitional kitchen. We evaluate every combination for structural compatibility and long-term performance.
Q. How long does an exotic wood project take?
A. Most projects run 3–6 weeks from consultation to installation depending on species availability and project complexity. We’ll give you a realistic timeline at your consultation — no surprises.
Q. Will my exotic wood top change color over time?
A. Yes — and usually beautifully. Purpleheart deepens from vivid purple to rich royal plum. Teak mellows to a warm honey. Sapele’s ribbon figure becomes more pronounced. We’ll tell you exactly what to expect from your specific species so the aging feels intentional rather than surprising.
Q. Do you deliver and install throughout Northeast Ohio?
A. Yes — we fabricate everything in our Medina shop and install across Akron, Canton, Cleveland, Wadsworth, Medina, Pepper Pike, Hudson, and surrounding communities. Your consultation can be in-home or in-shop depending on your preference.
Q. What’s the difference between exotic and domestic hardwoods — is it just appearance?
A. Appearance is part of it but not all of it. Many exotics have natural properties — moisture resistance, insect resistance, exceptional hardness — that domestic species don’t match. You’re not just buying a look. You’re buying performance characteristics that are genuinely different from what you’d get at a home improvement store.
